About Katy

Welcome

I started Katy’s Table blog in the winter of 2012, primarily as a creative outlet to write about food & wine, but later it became a great place to store my body of work. I write about my first love: food, and every day I learn more about wine, travel, culture and how to live the Good Life. Blogging has also given me a wonderful platform to meet other writers, eaters, drinkers and travellers from all over the world, and has opened a small window into the warm and supportive blogging community.

I was first inspired by, my now-friend-afar, Madeline Puckette, Writer and Editor of Winefolly.com. For the first time I had found a wine resource, an educational treasure trove, that was fun and accessible. Madeline has taught me that creative and vibrant women can be respected sommeliers and can speak with conviction on their topic, without alienating their audience. I wanted to create a space like Wine Folly, but in a uniquely South African landscape.

Slowly, and without warning, reading and learning and writing about food has become my life. I am drawn to chefs and cooks and farmers; sometimes in a Michelin star restaurant and sometimes in the family home, learning about the creative process that draws people together in a universal way. I hope to share with you here some of the great food experiences I have found, both in South Africa and abroad, highlighting passion and creativity and how to live a Good Life.

Feel free to email me on contact@katystable.com

Nice blog! You’ve got a lot of fun things you’re exploring, and I look forward to reading up on your experiences. Thank you for the follow over at my Blogarhythms page. Hope you’ll visit my humble wine blog Oenophilogical, too, where I tend to focus on budget-conscious selections. I’m not a pro like yourself, but I have taste buds!! Thus, I share my own consumer experiences (should I say consumption experiences?) at oenophilogical.wordpress.com. Keep up the great posts, please!

Thanks for the feedback Oenophilogical! I’m by no means a pro – I just enjoy a good glass of wine. The wine helps with the inspiration too – which in turn, helps me sound as if I know what I’m talking about. Keep writing Wine Friend!

Hi Katy. It’s a lovely blog you have here, I am really enjoying it. It’s great too see people so utterly devoted to the greatness and simplicity of proper food and good wine. Always keep the old-fashioned way alive! Speak soon.

Katy, it was a pleasure meeting such a great soul as yours. I wish you the best on your crazy cool travels (even though it’s just work ;-), and I hope you’re able to achieve the short term of consistent wonderfulness with your family.

    Take care. Travel safe.

    Scott

While I generally admire food bloggers whose repertoire consists of more than just explaining food with such words as “ubiquitous” or “succulent”, the first thing I noticed about Katy was that Katy refers to herself in third-person. I like this.
Also, it helps that she is hot and not some fat Chinese food blogger who wears sunglasses at night, or something.
